300 I've seen people complainign that this film glorifies violence and prizes physical excellence and toughness above all else. I have one comment; why go to see a film about Spartans if that bothers you? I mean, if you know one thing about Spartans it's the 'With your shield or on it', right? (A line which they did use, to my chagrin.)

That said, it felt like a comic, it looked like Frank Miller, and that's what I signed up for. Wonderful.

Scooby Doo and the Witch's Ghost.

This film is very funny. The basic premise is that one guy is attempting to prove that his ancestor is not a witch, but Wiccan. WTF? It goes on via one woman claiming to be '1/16th Wiccan' and my favourite line: "We're EcoGoths. And we don't need your approval." Lovely.

I like your icon!

I disagree with those people: I think that the film glorifies CGI enhanced abs and pecs above all else :-).

It's a film about a battle with elite soldiers in it, so I'd have been very surprised if it hadn't appeared to have physical excellence and violence in. Unlike certain other films with lots of battles and David Wenham in, they don't mostly appear to glorify hair conditioner though.

In re 300, have you seen this ?

I'm probably not seeing it, because "Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by, that here in our bondage gear we lie" does not appeal to me a a cinema-ticket's worth.

LOL. Reminds me of this: http://www.schlockmercenary.com/d/20010623.html

But, while I don't *necessarily* have a problem with it, you mightn't necessarily expect it; there are plenty of films that show off Spartan-like courage and skill and violence, but not to the exclusion of everything else, which is the vibe I maybe got here...

...and missed out the bit where I say I did enjoy it, though had reservations as humorously summarised on my last post... :)

Come to think of it, have you actually seen Spartan ?

It's not about Spartans, it's a contemporary political thriller, but it's very intelligent and very good indeed, and did not get a tenth the notice it deserved IMHO.
