Continuing our adventures in mainstream popculture, Andreas and I are baking cookies and boogeying to Little Mix. I'm having fun and I'm quite enjoying both the music and the dance and of course the cookies :) So he also asked to watch X Factor and we've set it to record, although it's a few weeks in, it turns out.

Cream 40g of marge, granny sugar and light muscovado, add a beaten egg and a few drops vanilla sugar, then 75g sr flour and 50g mixed dried fruit or chocolate chips. Drop spoonfuls on a baking tray and 180c/gas mark 4 for 10 -12 minutes.

One of my New year's resolutions was to help my partners gain skills I already have that they want to learn.

Duly, yesterday R and I had a baking date and this is how it went.

the first line of the first LJ post of each month this year.

January: Judith's favourite library book for a long time has been "My doll Keshia" by Eloise Springfield.
February: People post pictures of the food they make for it, and there were loads of guys wearing dresses, some kind of New Orlean thing?
March: We went to Madame Tussauds at half term, and Benedict was asking why Benazir Bhutto was assassinated, as he thought she was one of the good guys.
April: (Picture of my greengage tree) Yesterday it was buds only, but this morning, all the buds had opened.
May: I took part in the Social contact survey, which said that if I were a childrens' TV character, then I would be a Ludwig!
June: The one I wanted to take is seated only (it's a sleeper train, so I want to be able to lie down).
July: I am actually glad of the weather.
August: We got home after a wonderful holiday, to discover that Deta was ill (and my house looks like even more of a tip compared to the beautiful houses I've been staying in).
September: I know some of you are in IL, and maybe can look out for this girl, the 16 year old daughter of a friend of a friend.
October: I told Judith we were going to a party, and I wasn't quite sure what we'd do at the party, but maybe there would be games or dancing.
November: Still here, still doing flylady.
December: Benedict (and his class)will be singing at the switching on of the Arbury Court Christmas tree lights, Tuesday at 4pm.

My flylady mission yesterday was to make cookies, and I forgot, so J and I will be doing that today. We're probably going to use the first of these recipes and make stained-glass window cookies.

I made pain au chocolat with mini daim bars. They were really very tasty, but if I make them again, I'll leave them to rise longer the first rise and remember to glaze them (they looked slightly undercooked, but weren't). I'm not sure that the daim bar actually added much, beyond a slight crunch, I don't think I'll do that again, but I'm glad I tried.

[livejournal.com profile] firinel pointed me at a webcomic and they have a recipe for Empanadas which look really tasty. Not for my next [livejournal.com profile] xanna time because I plan to make pepparkakor, but some other time.

[livejournal.com profile] xanna and Benedict and [livejournal.com profile] cjwatson and I have tea, cake and games once a week, you see. One week I bake, and the next she does. We sometimes have pie or cookies instead of cake. I've noticed that cookies seem to be the standard party sweet thing in the US, and I have one of those biscuit press things now. So, maybe I'll make cookies more often in future.

Do any of you have nice cookie recipes?
