I did OK with Europe, though I still struggle to get the Balkan states in the right order!

I had to guess twice on Moldova, but I got the rest right . . . although some of the Balkans were guessed (which one's Hungary and which Romania?), as were the Baltic republics (I know it's Latvia-Lithuania-Estonia, but I can never remember if that's north to south or south to north).

Aye, I got the Baltics in the wrong order. And the fragments of the Former Yugoslavia.

I've mentioned before, I think, that one of the things I had drummed into me at junior school was how to spell Czechoslovakia (it was always the last item on spelling tests), so I was rather disappointed when it ceased to exist.

But at least you can now spell Czech and Slovakia, which is two countries, so the knowledge is twice as useful as it was before.

Lithuania-Latvia-Estonia l-). Lithuania had an empire poking down towards the Black Sea long ago which is a hint towards it being at the southern end; and you only need to remember one of Lithuania being next to Latvia, or Estonia being next to Finland, to get the rest of the ordering.

But then, I've actually travelled to most of them, and the ones I haven't been to I have spent far too long looking at maps planning to go there, so I'd have been shocked if I'd got anything wrong.

I'd have got full marks if I'd been able to click on Luxembourg accurately and avoid mis-reading "Ireland" as "Iceland".

But you didn't tell us you're score. I got 92: don't know any baltic states; I know the countries adjacent to Germany because of a German jigsaw I used to like doing. Also, I learnt to spell the German for Czechoslovakia (but have forgotten it). Learnt Estonia Latvia Lithuania, because it was on a map in history. They're in alphabetical order, Estonia on the top. The Russian state was a surprise, since I haven't kept up with the changes in world geography since leaving school.
