[livejournal.com profile] julietk posted sopmething mentioning 3 bands: Mogwai, Tortoise and Shellac. the latter two I have never heard of, which kind of prompted me to pull the Mogwai off the shelf and actually listen to it.

two tracks in, this seems slow, and not terribly exciting, but entirely listenable. Would it, therefore, be the act of a wise ghoti to investigate the other bands?

I have a few albums by Tortoise; of those, I think 'Standards' is probably the most interesing and the one I enjoy most.

"Millions now living will never die" gets bonus points for the cool title, as well as the twenty-minute track "Djed" though ;)

I've seen Tortoise live and I own an album by Shellac, that's how finger-on-the-pulse I am! Tortoise are quite mellow, Shellac are aggressive and shouty. Hence I prefer Shellac, obviously ;)

I don't have any Tortoise, but I have Shellac. I could, in principle, send a tape southwards at the weekend if you'd like.

I've got a couple of Mogwai albums too, but not the most recent ones.
